This training is hands-on by the participants with brief presentations by the instructor as outlined here. The participants will perform parallel tasks on their laptops with the instructor. Instructor will provide explanations on various aspects of this tool.

The instructor will show how to use this tool and its applications in exploration geophysics and explain all methods and options available. Areal extent estimation offers valuable data for designing a 3D/2D surveys. Areal extent is also important for designing processing flow for 3D seismic surveys. Discuss how it helps the processor/interpreter in QC processing of 3D data, and the interpreter can use the areal extent to QC processed 3D seismic data interpreted structure maps. Discuss the use of linear vs. nonlinear ray tracing. Show how the velocity gradient impacts linear to nonlinear ray tracing. Demonstrate how to select parameters for parametrically modeling a structure, carry out ray tracing and subsequently generate migrated and un-migrated structure maps, dip,  and strike maps.  The instructor will explain how to use existing structure data from interpreted maps or well data as x, y, z coordinates in excel worksheet for input to ray tracing, and generate migrated and un-migrated maps, 3D dip maps, strike maps and curvature maps. The instructor will lead the participants in saving graphics images generated during ray tracing and show how to export saved images and individual maps from saved Surfer^TM  files to Powerpoint presentation and to a Word document for writing reports.

Tasks:

This training is about participants learning and performing each task using GSCM Tool:

• Specify parameters for 3D structure modeling
• Linear and non-linear ray tracing from 3D structural model, and Save images during ray tracing
• Visualizing imaged structure contours on the surface and determine contour conformity (not crossing) / non conformity (crossing) relative to the structure
• Excel input data for structure depth
• Linear and non-linear ray tracing from 3D structure input data from Excel file, and Save images during ray tracing
• Areal extent for QC of survey design, seismic data processing, and interpretation
• Generate migrated, un-migrated, dip maps, strike maps
• Relating dip and strike maps to un-migrated maps
• Recognizing potential areas of "artifacts" from un-migrated maps
• Save maps as Surfer^TM  files
• Saving input parameter data as database record and file names containing run ID and date stamp for reference
• Restoring input parameters from a past database record
• Saving screen graphics as image files.
• Exporting saved screen graphics and maps  to a PowerPoint presentation and word document
